The New Orleans District Office (NODO) will partner with federal and state agencies to offer compliance assistance events focused on compliance with various provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). These events will be of interest to employers who seek H program (H-1B, H-2A, H-2B) certification as well as their representatives and attorneys. The NODO’s goal is to share with attendees any changes, updates or trends that impact them. These day-long events will be held in Baton Rouge, LA, and Alexandria, LA. The 62nd Annual SNA Research Conference, hosted by the Southern Nursery Association, will be held January 8 and 9, 2018, in conjunction with The SNA Conference, two days before the Mid-Atlantic Nursery Trade Show (MANTS), scheduled for January 10-12, at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland. This two-day event will feature the best in horticultural research and as a researcher, you are invited to participate in this conference by submitting your title(s) by October 20, 2017, and your paper(s) by November 17.

SNA to Collocate with MANTS

Atlanta, Ga., June 16, 2017 – The Southern Nursery Association (SNA) has announced plans to collocate The SNA Conference with the Mid-Atlantic Nursery Trade Show (MANTS) in 2018. Under this new arrangement, both events will take place at the Baltimore Convention Center with The SNA Conference preceding MANTS on Monday and Tuesday, January 8-9, 2018. MANTS will take place on Wednesday, January 10 – Friday, January 12.

Boxwood Blight: Researchers Looking Outside of the Box for Solutions

WASHINGTON, DC and COLUMBUS, OH - Boxwood blight (BB) continues to spread throughout the US. The University of Illinois Plant Clinic recently announced its presence in Illinois. The clinic received two boxwood samples late 2016. Both were from northeast Illinois and were collected from recent landscape installations. USDA APHIS confirmed that both tested positive for BB. Univeristy of Illinois Extension personnel are confident that the infected plants did not likely originate from an Illinois nursery. SNA Announces 2017 Sidney B. Meadows Scholarship Endowment Fund

Southern Nursery Association released their 2017 Scholarship Announcement for this year. This is an important year as SNA will pass an important milestone of more than $500,000 in total awarded scholarships since the fund began in 1989. These scholarships are available to hort students attending universities nation-wide but they must be a resident of one of our 16 southeastern states.
Full eligibility requirements are available through the link above. Deadline for application is May 26, 2017. The Scholarship Selection Committee will make final selections by July 7, 2017 and recipients will be notified soon thereafter. Twelve $1,500 scholarships will be awarded on August 2, in Athens, Georgia, during the SEGreen Conference.

The Louisiana Nursery Landscape Foundation for Scholarship and Research was organized exclusively for charitable distributions to tax exempt organizations that have educational and scientific purposes. As the foundation component of LNLA, the LNLFSR provides funds for research in horticulture and scholarships for horticulture students attending Louisiana colleges and universities. Funds are raised at an annual Gala.
